OBOB Continues

Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) continues at Wildwood!

If your student is interested in participating in Wildwood’s OBOB team next year then read on…

Some students choose to start reading the 16 required books over the summer, to support this endeavor Wildwood has purchased a set of 6-8th grade division OBOB books for OBOB students to check out over the summer. To check out books please contact Stephanie Hargrave @ 541-490-7744 or stephanie@gorge.net. Most OBOB books are also normally available at your local library. The list of books is here https://www.oregonbattleofthebooks.org/2019-2020-obob-book-titles/ , and included in this post below.

For those unfamiliar with OBOB, additional information is below –

  • OBOB is a fun, team oriented, competitive program for students who love reading or listening to books. It broadens reading interests through exposure to a variety of literary genres, increases reading comprehension and promotes collaboration and teamwork among students. OBOB is sponsored by the Oregon association of School Libraries.

  • All teams read and study the same list of 16 books, and prepare for “Battles” that are held at the end of the OBOB season. A battle pits two teams against each other, each answering questions pertaining to the books. Teams work together and use their combined knowledge to answer each question.

  • A team consists of 4 students, with 1 alternate. Only 1 team per school may compete in the regional competition. The cost per student to be on the Wildwood team is approximately $30. Our previous Wildwood OBOB team, the Pickle Pack, met 2x per week over lunch at school and placed second at the regional competition.

  • Our Wildwood team(s) will form in September, and begin meeting in November. The regional competition takes place in the February/March timeframe.
